Sustainability by Design:
A Design Charrette for Greater Vancouver

This large one-day event field-tested the design brief and project principles to apply them to the Greater Vancouver region by the year 2056, when its population will double to 4 million.

The charrette had over 120 participants, including delegates from AIBC/RAIC; PIBC/CIP; and BCSLA/CSLA, plus Vancouver area stakeholders and urbanists.

For six hours, the participants had to design the region to accomodate a doubling and aging population [see research bulletins] with sustainable design principles.
See image gallery and charrette results.

This design charrette also intersected with UN World Urban Forum proceedings (June 18-23, 2006) and was one of many 'Super Saturday' events being organized by the City Building Planners Group. The charrette's resulting giant map was later exhibited at the World Urban Forum. See image gallery.
